"Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you." Exodus 20:12 ESV  Children honoring moms and dads is so important to God that He included it as one of His top ten foundational commands for all of mankind.  Obeying the sixth commandment, as well as the other nine, is honoring and pleasing to God.  It is also for the good of all children.  According to Ephesians 6:2 it is the first commandment given with an attached promise.  The promise is that it may go well for obedient children and that they may enjoy long life.

In spite of the command and accompanying promise, the day in which we live is characterized by disobedience to and dishonoring of moms and dads.  The Apostle Paul predicted that in his writing to Timothy when he said, "But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty.  For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people." 2 Timothy 3:1-5 ESV

Need we wonder why our country is experiencing times of difficulty?

Mother's Day is a good time to recommit ourselves to living life God's way.  His way is always for His glory and our good.  Let us honor our mothers on her special day and every day.  Bring glory to God, bring honor to mom, and enjoy the good of God's blessing for a long time.

 He promised!
