Lately I have been thinking and reading about our worship.  Some of my thoughts are being stimulated by a book written by Bob Kauflin who formerly traveled with the Christian group GLAD and later became a pastor with Sovereign Grace Ministries.  The book is called, “Worship Matters”.  He states that worship matters to God because He is the one ultimately worthy of all worship.  It matters to us because worshiping God is the reason for which we have been created.

We should ask the question, “What is worship really about anyway?”  The answer is, “worship is about what we love.”  “What we live for.”  “It is about who we are before God.”  Worship is not about music, techniques, liturgies, songs, or methodologies.  It is about our hearts.  It is about what and who we love more than anything.

John Stott wrote in “Authentic Christianity”, “All true worship is a response to the self -revelation of God in Christ and Scripture, and arises from our reflection on who He is and what He has done…. The worship of God is evoked, informed, and inspired by the vision of God…. The true knowledge of God will always lead us to worship.

As I think about worship, I am challenged and driven to one thing.  That one thing is a true and deeper knowledge of God in all His magnificence as revealed in His Word, for then I know I will be driven to worship.
